What is Physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy or Physio involves the subjective and objective assessment of pain or injuries of the musculoskeletal system (Muscles, tendons, bones, ligaments etc.) to identify the cause of your symptoms. This is then structured into a personalised treatment plan that includes hands on manual therapy, advice and education, and a comprehensive graded and structured exercise plan to restore normal movement, function and help you reach your short and long term goals.

What happens in a physiotherapy session?

Your initial appointment will begin with a discussion about your symptoms, injury, medical history, and overall health. This helps us understand your condition and identify any factors that may influence your recovery. We will then carry out a thorough assessment, which may include examining the affected area, assessing movement, and performing strength or flexibility tests where appropriate.

Where possible, treatment will begin during your first appointment. You will also receive clear advice and a personalised treatment plan to support your recovery. If further investigations or specialist input are required, we will guide you through the referral process and provide any necessary supporting documentation.

What Should I wear?

To help facilitate a thorough assessment, we recommend wearing or bringing appropriate clothing. For lower limb injuries, shorts are advisable, while assessment of upper body conditions may require access to the affected area.

Your comfort and privacy are always a priority. Any request to remove or adjust clothing will be discussed with you beforehand, and your consent will always be obtained. If you would prefer not to remove certain items of clothing, alternative assessment approaches can be used where possible.

You are welcome to bring a friend, family member, or chaperone to your appointment. If you plan to do so, please let your physiotherapist know in advance.

Should I bring someone with me?

Children under 16 years of age must be accompanied by an adult and written consent provided by the child's legal guardian. Teenagers aged between 16 and 18 years of age must provide written consent to treatment from a parent/guardian at their initial appointment but may attend independently if they wish.

People of any age may bring a chaperone.

Do you accept private health insurance?

Please note that we do not currently accept private medical insurance as a direct payment method. However, some insurance providers may allow you to claim back the cost of your treatment. We recommend contacting your insurer before your appointment to confirm your level of cover and reimbursement eligibility.
